kono kankaku wa masaka...

After spending two days geeking away with Doom WADs, I just had to continue.

Today, I opened the package of Super Robot Taisen: Original Generations, a game for PS2. Like Andrew said, the opening sequence is boring. That is because we've seen the exact same thing in the promotion videos. The menu, however, is pretty refreshing. A video plays in the backdrop while a brand new song by JAM Project is played.

The game is split into two sections, Original Generation 1 and 2. The former was pretty similar, except Ryuusei exchanged words with Tenzan, unlike in the GBA version in which Tenzan did not turn up and Ryuusei emerged first. The latter was... weird. Nope, nothing weird about introducing Raul and gang and their Excellence mechs (originals from Super Robot Taisen R for the GBA). I skipped most of the dialogues just to see Lamia appear, occasionally pausing to listen to Axel Almer. When it finally came to Axel vs. Beowulf, Beowulf revealed his face. He was actually introduced to the player as Kyosuke! With a different face though. This Kyosuke has a deranged face, made up of a discernible scar and a wicked grin.

Guess what, for the next few stages, when Kyosuke appears with Excellen and Bullet, he is still in the blue Alt Eisen that Beowulf was in. WEIIRD. Are we back to OGverse? Or somehow Excellen and Bullet made it in this version of the Shadow Mirror dimension to be with Beowulf? Lamia hasn't even appeared after quite a long time.

Soon, I was back testing Doom wads against the Doomsday Engine. Bah... freakin overworld graphic bugs. Guess it will be quite a while before I can enjoy the WolfenDoom wads with OpenGL rendering. Anyway, it was then I found a game online. A total conversion of the first Doom game: Chex Quest.

In the mid 90s, it was packed in Chex cereal boxes as a free computer game. Ever since, it has gained a cult following... with people creating all sorts of Chex Quest variants, including a sequel programmed with the Doom 3 engine and a prequel programmed with the Wolfenstein 3D engine. Pretty awesome, eh? I downloaded The Ultimate Chex Quest, which is a remake of the original Chex Quest and Chex Quest 2 games to be run with the Doom Legacy source port. You gotta hear that guy talking about why he embarked on this project. Admirable. Go to the screenshot page and see all the nifty changes he made and the reasons he stated.

All these exploring almost made me miss my Orchestra practice. Technically I didn't. The truth is I fell asleep at the bus stop! When I awoke, everyone was gone. I was in a dazzled state of "I don't know what happened" until I reached home. Thanks Ferren, for guiding the lost lamb back home =) Damn, I even brought Yang's VCDs to return to her. I'll have to wait until Thursday I guess.

...A dark alley...

Upon turning into this alley from the busy streets, you realize that this area is totally void of light from the streetlamps and noise from the roads. You see a man in crumpled clothing. He wears a torn straw hat.

make some sense

Layout designer's notes...

best viewed in 1024 X 768 resolution. a brief history about the author pertaining to the theme of shadow of transcendence. it came about in the wee hours of the early morning while being whisked away into memories of the past etched deep within the mind. bittersweetness that tingled the tastebuds of her emotions and feelings, the only way out for true liberation from this reality is what is behind the shadow of transcendence; suicide. the taste of iron-rust blood coiled with the lingering bittersweetness is the only contemplation of which the simplicity of life has to offer in exchange for the shadow of transcendence. made in the heavens through one creator, an angel borne to serve man; fell from where it belonged to earth where its purity shadowed by boredom and nohing better to do.
